Vacant for 12 years, the tan building with boarded up windows and weeds growing all around is undergoing a 21st century facelift and about to become the new home for a hometown business, Baldwin General Contracting, Inc.
The acquisition of this 8000 square foot building could not come at a better time for Baldwin General; 2015 marks their 10th-year anniversary. Space in their current location at 422 Cleveland Ave SW was beyond scarce, the new building will have over 5 times the room.
“When we moved into our existing location in 2008 it seemed like more space than we could ever use, we never dreamed we would outgrow it so fast”
This facility will provide the Albany, Oregon based business a facility in which to continue success and growth for many years to come. Every effort has been made to keep the construction green, repurposing, reusing and recycling as much as possible. The building design literally transforms a derelict unoccupied eyesore into one of the most modern and attractive buildings in Albany.
“One of the exciting things about this project for us is that it provides a showcase for the specialty contractors and suppliers who are doing some great work, we are utilizing some very cutting edge materials and construction methods”
Being a good community neighbor was important in Baldwin’s decision making. Other potential locations included moving the headquarters out of the close proximity to downtown and into surrounding industrial areas. By selecting this location, Baldwin remains in the heart of the community and has close access to other local businesses and services.
This nearly $850,000 renovation could not have happened without great partnerships.
“The folks down at City Hall were all great to work with and really were a huge help in working through all the issues, start to finish, we can’t say enough good things about that team. Also, all of the local business and specialty subcontractors have gone out of their way to help make this project a success for us.”
Planned to be completed by the end of the year, we invite you to keep visiting here to see the progress, stop by our Facebook page and drive by, wave and give us a thumbs up.
